PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT ATTORNEY

Pedestrians are uniquely at risk of being injured on the road when compared with those in cars, or even bikes for that matter.  Even so, many drivers on the road do not give pedestrians the proper respect, this is especially true in California.  As a result, many California residents are killed or suffer very serious injuries do to the negligence of drivers.

If you or a loved one has suffered a pedestrian accident or you have any question that has not been answered, call or text us now at (310) 777-7717 for a free, no obligation, consultation.  Remember, we do not get paid a penny unless we win your case.

Pedestrians should always walk on the sidewalk.  When there is no sidewalk available and you are forced to walk on the road, you should walk on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe.

Dress in brightly colored clothing.  This makes you more visible to drivers during the day.  If you are planning to walk in the evening try to wear reflective clothing, such as shoes or jackets to reflect the headlights of oncoming cars.

You should always cross the street at a marked crosswalk.

  • Stop at the curb or edge of the road.
  • Look left and right, then left again, before crossing the street.
  • If there is a car coming, wait for it to pass. Then look left and right until no cars are coming.
  • If there are parked cars, make sure there is no one in the driver’s seat. Then go to the edge of the car and look left-right-left until there are no cars.  Keep looking for cars as you cross, and remember, walk, don’t run.

CALIFORNIA IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS PLACE FOR PEDESTRIANS.

According to statistics, California is one of the most dangerous places in the country for pedestrians.  Los Angeles County is the most dangerous county in America, with nearly twice as many pedestrians killed than the next highest county according to the most recent government statistics on pedestrian safety.

This is no surprise given that Los Angeles has a very high population combined with some of the worst traffic conditions, poorly maintained roadways, and a public transit system that hardly anyone uses.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT?

Pedestrian accidents can cause very serious injuries with high medical costs, loss of income and mental and emotional trauma.  Insurance companies know that many pedestrians are the most vulnerable victims and therefore they try to reach a lowball settlement with the pedestrian immediately. Usually, insurance companies will make pedestrians give recorded statements that they will later use against the pedestrian.  Therefore, it is imperative to contact an attorney immediately who will fight on your behalf and not let the insurance company take advantage of your vulnerable position.
